Helicopter Flight Experience
Your adventure begins at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu. Before takeoff, your pilot will provide a safety briefing and explain your flight path, landing points, and highlights.
Once aboard, buckle up, put on your headset, and prepare for liftoff over Kathmandu’s skyline. As the helicopter climbs higher, you'll fly eastward toward Lukla, passing over lush green hills, deep river valleys, and sparkling waterfalls.
After a short stop at Lukla for refueling and mountain air, the flight continues deeper into the Khumbu region. Watch as Namche Bazaar, Tengboche Monastery, and Pangboche village unfold beneath you.
Soaring above the Khumbu Icefall and Glacier, your helicopter arrives at Everest Base Camp — with panoramic views of the most legendary peaks in the world:
Everest (8,848m)
Lhotse (8,516m)
Nuptse (7,861m)
Ama Dablam (6,812m)
Pumori (7,161m)
Thamserku, Khumbutse, Changtse, and many others
Landing at Kala Patthar (5,545m)
Your pilot will gently land on Kala Patthar, one of the best viewpoints of Mount Everest. Here, you’ll step out for approximately 10 minutes — the air is thin but crisp, and the 360-degree views are absolutely unforgettable.
Take your time to capture stunning photos, soak in the grandeur of the Himalayas, and stand at the foot of the world’s highest mountain.
Breakfast with Everest at Everest View Hotel
After your Kala Patthar landing, you'll continue to the renowned Everest View Hotel (3,880m) in Syangboche for a relaxing meal.
Enjoy breakfast with a backdrop of Everest and Ama Dablam, and reflect on the adventure you’ve just had. Dining at this altitude, with this view, is a rare privilege and a moment to remember forever.
Return to Kathmandu
Following breakfast, the helicopter will gently lift off once more, retracing its path back to Kathmandu. The journey home offers one final chance to admire the towering peaks and Himalayan landscape from above.
You’ll return with not only beautiful pictures but a lifetime of memories from your Everest flight experience.

Highlights of the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour
Day 01: Everest Helicopter Excursion
Approx 5:45 AM – Morning Pick-up and Drive to Kathmandu Domestic Terminal (TIA - 1350m)
Your high-altitude adventure begins bright and early! At 5:45 AM, one of our representatives will arrive at your hotel to escort you to the domestic terminal of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). The early morning drive through the quiet streets of Kathmandu typically takes about 20–30 minutes.
Before heading out, double-check that you’ve packed your passport and essentials. We recommend dressing in layers with warm clothing, gloves, sunglasses, snacks, and a refillable water bottle for added comfort during the flight.
Approx 6:15 AM – Airport Check-In and Pre-Flight Procedures
Upon arrival at TIA, we’ll proceed with the necessary documentation and baggage check-in. These formalities may take up to 30 minutes. Be aware that helicopters have strict weight restrictions, and this may influence how groups are split for flight arrangements.
Once all checks are completed, you’ll receive your boarding pass and wait in the lounge. Meanwhile, technical crews will perform safety inspections of the aircraft and confirm favorable weather conditions in both Kathmandu and Lukla.
Shortly before departure, our lead pilot will greet you and provide a safety orientation, including how to enter and exit the chopper, manage door handles, and ensure a smooth, safe ride. Though brief, this safety talk is essential—please give it your full attention.
Window Seat Note: Everyone loves the perfect window shot of Everest’s majesty. To ensure fairness, we rotate seats mid-journey so each traveler enjoys an equal opportunity to witness the breathtaking scenery.
Approx 6:40 AM – Flight to Lukla (2,820m) – 45 Minutes
Strap in for a spectacular 45-minute flight to the world-famous Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla—widely considered one of the most thrilling airstrips on Earth.
Shortly after takeoff, Himalayan peaks will begin to peek through the clouds. From Manaslu to Langtang, Kanchenjunga to Ganesh Himal—your eyes will feast on a series of rising giants. As you cross Lamjura La Pass (3,550m), the mighty Everest and neighboring Lhotse will appear on the horizon.
The final leg into Lukla delivers an impressive fly-by of Kongde Ri (6,187m), setting the stage for your alpine journey.
Approx 7:40 AM – Brief Stop at Lukla for Refueling (10–12 Minutes)
We’ll take a short refueling break at Lukla. During this time, feel free to stretch, breathe the crisp mountain air, or grab a warm beverage in one of the nearby lodges.
Approx 7:50 AM – Flight over Khumbu Region via Pheriche (4,200m)
After refueling, the helicopter lifts again—this time soaring above the spellbinding Khumbu Valley. Enjoy aerial views of terraced villages, glacial rivers, and alpine forests as our captain shares insightful stories and facts about the area.
Below, the Sherpa lifestyle unfolds—children playing, farmers working, and travelers trekking alongside the glacial Dudh Koshi River.
As the aircraft ascends, notable locations like Namche Bazaar, Phortse Village, and the striking Tengboche Monastery come into view. Ama Dablam’s perfect pyramid rises into view, followed closely by Nuptse, Lhotse, and of course, Everest itself.
Important Note: If the group exceeds three people, we may need to land at Pheriche to redistribute the weight due to altitude limitations. In that case, the pilot will make two trips to Kala Patthar and the Everest View Hotel. The waiting group can explore Pheriche and engage with local Sherpas during this time.
Approx 8:25 AM – Scenic Overflight of Everest Base Camp (5,364m) + Landing at Kala Patthar (5,545m) – 05 Minutes
From Pheriche, we fly over Dughla and the Thukla Memorial Pass, a sacred site marked with fluttering prayer flags honoring fallen climbers.
You’ll then witness Lobuche, the massive Khumbu Glacier, and the otherworldly terrain surrounding Gorak Shep, the highest inhabited area in the region.
Soon, the legendary Everest Base Camp comes into view, usually dotted with expedition tents during the spring climbing season. A few minutes later, the helicopter lands at Kala Patthar—the ultimate viewpoint for Everest and its surrounding peaks.
Due to the thin air and risk of altitude sickness, we’ll only spend about 10 minutes here. Make the most of this moment as you stand surrounded by an amphitheater of giants—Everest, Pumori, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Khumbutse, and many more.
Altitude Tip: The engine will remain running for safety. Should anyone show early signs of altitude issues, immediate evacuation is ensured.
Approx 8:45 AM – Breakfast at Everest View Hotel (3,880m) – about 25 minutes
From Kala Patthar, we descend to Syangboche for a once-in-a-lifetime breakfast at the iconic Everest View Hotel—certified by Guinness World Records in 2004 as the world's highest-altitude hotel.
This Japanese-engineered marvel offers a perfect panorama of Everest, Thamserku, Ama Dablam, and other peaks—all visible as you sip tea and enjoy your morning meal. You’ll have a full hour to relax and soak in the dramatic surroundings.
Approx 9:45 AM – Return Flight to Kathmandu (Possible Stop in Lukla for Refueling)
After this dreamlike breakfast experience, we begin our flight back to Kathmandu. Depending on the fuel level, there may be a short stop at Lukla.
Approx 11:45 AM – Arrival at TIA and Transfer to Hotel
Back in the capital, we’ll complete final formalities at the airport. From there, our team will escort you to your hotel. Take a moment to reflect on what you’ve achieved and experienced during this unforgettable sky journey over Everest.

Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour vs. Everest Base Camp Trek: Which is the Best Choice?
No visit to Nepal feels complete without experiencing Everest up close. If you’ve already enjoyed trekking adventures here but still dream of witnessing Everest’s grandeur firsthand, then our Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour 2024 is perfect for you.
Even with limited time — whether a full day or just a few hours in Kathmandu — this extraordinary journey allows you to stand atop the majestic Kala Patthar and view Everest from just a stone’s throw away.
Beyond Everest, you’ll be greeted by a lineup of other 8000-meter peaks towering in the distance. The best part? You’ll bypass the demanding, lengthy hikes and rugged terrain, enjoying the trip in ultimate comfort.
Though brief, this helicopter tour offers all the iconic experiences of a classic Everest Base Camp trek — from sweeping aerial views of dense forests, blooming rhododendrons, and craggy hills to sparkling rivers like the Dudh Koshi, Bhote Koshi, and Imja Khola.
You’ll spot famous landmarks like Tengboche and Pangboche Monasteries, the challenging Thukla Pass, and the legendary Everest Base Camp itself. Plus, you’ll savor ten magical minutes at Kala Patthar’s summit.
To top it off, enjoy an hour-long breakfast at the highest hotel on earth — the Everest View Hotel. In every sense, our helicopter tour encapsulates the essence of a traditional EBC trek.
Why Choose the Everest Base Camp Trek Instead?
Trekking to Everest Base Camp offers a deeply personal and immersive encounter with the Himalayas, its communities, and nature’s wonders.
Walking the trails, you feel the earthy Khumbu soil underfoot and breathe in Everest’s crisp mountain air. The thrill of seeing Ama Dablam and Everest up close fills your heart with pride and joy — a truly rewarding accomplishment.
While helicopter tours provide glimpses of forests and rhododendrons from above, trekking allows you to touch, smell, and experience these elements firsthand.
You may glimpse monks in their monasteries from the air, but walking among them offers invaluable cultural exchanges and life-changing perspectives.
The rushing Dudh Koshi river is spectacular from above, yet nothing compares to journeying alongside it on foot.
Trekking also gives you the chance to meet the warm-hearted Sherpa people and spend nights in their cozy mountain lodges, fostering unforgettable connections.
Which One is Right for You?
Both experiences have unique highlights and limitations, making it difficult to recommend one over the other outright. What’s certain is that either option will fulfill your dream of standing in the presence of the majestic Everest.
Best Time to Take the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour
The helicopter tour is available year-round, regardless of the season — winter, spring, summer, or autumn — thanks to the helicopter’s ability to fly even in moderately challenging weather conditions.
For the clearest views and most comfortable temperatures, autumn (September to November) and spring (March to May) are ideal. During these months, daytime temperatures hover between 15–20°C, making travel pleasant and skies brilliantly blue.
Winter (December to February) can bring frosty, foggy mornings that may delay early flights, but afternoons usually clear with bright sunshine and crisp mountain vistas.
The summer monsoon (June to August) often means frequent showers and cloud cover, leading to possible flight cancellations. However, there are always clear days, so with patience, you can still enjoy the tour.
Difficulty Level and Who Can Participate in the Helicopter Tour
Our Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour is the easiest, shortest, most luxurious, and safest way to reach Everest.
Starting and ending in Kathmandu, it requires no overnight stays in remote lodges. The entire adventure lasts about five hours, removing the need for strenuous trekking or climbing.
It’s suitable for participants aged 5 to 80 and especially recommended for those with time limitations, mild health concerns, or physical restrictions.
Altitude sickness risk is minimal, and in rare cases, the helicopter can quickly descend for medical assistance.
Health & Fitness Recommendations
While the tour is accessible to most, if you have serious respiratory issues (such as asthma, bronchitis), cardiovascular problems, or other significant health concerns, please consult your doctor before booking.
Though the helicopter tour involves no trekking, you will ascend above 3,500 meters, which may affect sensitive individuals.
If you suffer from severe fear of heights or flying, the Everest Base Camp trek might be a better alternative.
Altitude Sickness Risk on the Helicopter Tour
The chance of altitude sickness during the helicopter tour is very low, but it can still happen due to rapid ascent above 3,000 meters.
Symptoms may include headache, nausea, fatigue, dizziness, or shortness of breath.
Our stay at Kala Patthar (5,644 m) is limited to about 10 minutes to minimize risk.
The helicopters are equipped with supplemental oxygen for flights above 3,000 m, and the pilot can promptly descend if anyone feels unwell.
We recommend taking a dose of Diamox before the trip to aid acclimatization and advise carrying water to stay hydrated.
Permits Needed for the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour
Although this tour doesn’t involve multi-day trekking in Sagarmatha National Park, permits are still required due to visits to Kala Patthar and Everest View Hotel within the protected region.
Permits include:
These can be obtained in Kathmandu through the Nepal Tourism Board or the Department of National Parks, or directly at Everest View Hotel where officials collect fees and issue permits.
Permit fees are not included in the package and typically cost approximately $35 (National Park) and $20 (Municipality) per person.
Travel Insurance Recommendation
Travel insurance is not mandatory for the helicopter tour but strongly advised.
Nepal is generally safe, and we prioritize your security, yet unexpected events like baggage loss, flight delays, cancellations, or medical emergencies can occur.
Having comprehensive insurance helps you avoid unforeseen expenses and ensures peace of mind throughout your adventure.
