Trip Overview

The 4-day Sunrise Poon Hill Hike via Ghandruk offers an enriching Himalayan journey through dense forests of rhododendron, oak, and juniper, paired with sweeping views of majestic snow-capped peaks and traditional mountain hamlets.

Perfect for those with limited time, this short yet rewarding trek in the Annapurna region is a remarkable fusion of natural beauty and cultural richness, featuring cascading waterfalls, diverse flora and fauna, and warm interactions with the Gurung communities that call this region home.

Beginning with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara, Nepal’s picturesque lake city, you’ll be greeted by awe-inspiring mountain vistas visible right from your hotel room. The next morning, a brief transfer to Nayapul marks the official start of your trek. From here, you’ll hike to Ghandruk, a charming Gurung village nestled on a scenic hillside. The views of the Annapurna and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) ranges from Ghandruk are nothing short of breathtaking.

The Gurung Museum here offers a glimpse into traditional highland life and ancient tools used in daily village life, making Ghandruk an enriching place to explore both visually and culturally.

From Ghandruk, the trail ascends through Tadapani and Ghorepani, eventually leading to the highlight of the trek—Poon Hill (3,210 meters). This famed vantage point offers a stunning 360-degree Himalayan panorama, featuring peaks such as Annapurna I (8,091m), Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Annapurna South (7,219m), Machhapuchhre (6,993m), and Hiunchuli (6,441m).

The early morning sunrise view from Poon Hill is a moment to remember, where golden hues light up the entire mountain range. After soaking in the views, the trail descends to Ulleri and Birethanti, eventually ending in Nayapul. From here, a short drive returns you to Pokhara to conclude your mountain adventure.
